Abstract
Koi (Cyprinus carpio) is one of popular types of ornamental fish with high commercial value. One of the innovations that can be made to increase the growth and color brightness of koi fish is through the manipulation of light duration (photoperiod). This study aimed to determine the best photoperiod for the growth and color brightness of koi fish. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) wich consisting of 5 treatments and 3 replications, that was P1 photoperiod 0 hours light dan 24 hours dark (0L:24D), P2 6 hours light and 18 hours dark (6L:18D), P3 12 hours light and 12 hours dark (12L:12D), P4 18 hours light and 6 hours dark (18L:6D) and P5 24 hours light and 0 hour dark (24L:0D). Fish rearing was performed for 40 days. The results showed that differences in photoperiod had a significant effect on absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, feed efficiency and color brightness of koi fish. Photoperiod 18L:6D was the best treatment which resulted in absolute length growth of 2.05 cm, absolute weight growth of 3.81 g and feed efficiency of 52.33%. In addition, photoperiod 18L:6D resulted final value in color brightness of 19,39 and increase in koi fish color brightness of 4,97 based on the Toca Color Finder (TCF) scale. Differences in photoperiod did not have a significant effect on the survival of koi fish. The water quality values during rearing were suitable for rearing koi fish.
