Abstract

With the rapid advancement of technology, there had been a proliferation of communication methods available to people, including virtual communication. One notable advancement in virtual communication platforms was Discord, which facilitated the establishment of online communities. Among these communities, the gaming community stood out, since it served as a platform for interaction among internet café players. The objective of the study was to assess the efficacy of virtual communication through the utilization of the Discord application among players at Emporium Supernova internet cafe in Palembang City. The theory employed in the study was Virtual Communication Theory, as proposed by J. Walther. The study's population consisted of 150 participants who were internet café players from the Discord community, with a sample size of 123 respondents. The research employed a quantitative descriptive statistics analysis technique. The findings of the study indicated that virtual communication through the utilization of the Discord application among players at Emporium Supernova internet cafe in Palembang City could be classified as highly effective. This was substantiated by the findings derived from the analysis conducted on the responses obtained from the administered questionnaire. In a broader context, the utilization of the Discord program for virtual conversation among gamers at the Emporium Supernova internet cafe in Palembang City had demonstrated a high level of effectiveness.
