Abstract
Polymer-based membrane is a thin layer between two fluid phases that is a barrier to a particular species, which can separate substances of different sizes, and limit the transport of various species based on their physical and chemical properties. This research aims to develop a membrane with materials including Polyethersulfone (PES) polymer with a mixture of Silver Nitrate (AgNO3) additives as reinforcement and N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvent. The research method is focused on membrane modifications ranging from membrane surface Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), tensile testing membrane characteristics, mechanical properties and Clean Water Permeablity (CWP) water treatment performance. In this study, the tensile testing obtained a decreasing stress value, namely the membrane PES30wt%@AgNO31.5wt% obtained an average value of 6.933 N/mm2 while the PES30wt%@AgNO32wt% obtained a value of 3.508 N/mm2 and at PES30wt%@AgNO32.5wt% obtained a value of 2.208 N/mm2. In CWP testing, there is a significant decrease in flux, namely in the PES30wt%@AgNO3 1.5wt% membrane, the average value is 5.896 Lm-2h-1, inversely proportional to the concentration of PES30wt%@AgNO32wt% with a flux value of 3.759 Lm-2h-1 and PES 30wt%@AgNO3 2.5wt% with the lowest average flux value of 1.695 Lm 2h-1. SEM observation of PES membrane surface with AgNO3 addition observed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed significant structural differences.
