Abstract

The Sebarus Village community, previously the majority of coffee farming, has now switched to vegetable farming because the land area is not sufficient to fulfill their daily lives. The objectives of this study were (1) to calculate the value of household income of coffee farmers, (2) to determine the proportion of coffee farm income to household income of coffee farmers, (3) to analyze the factors (crop age, land area, selling price, production volume, length of farming experience, number of members, distance from home to garden) on coffee farm income. This research was conducted in Sebarus Village, Balik Bukit District, West Lampung Regency in August 2023. The research method used was the survey method. The data used are primary data and secondary data. The results of this study are (1) Coffee harvesting in Sebarus Village is divided into three stages with an interval of 2 to 3 weeks between each stage, depending on the maturity level of the fruit. After picking, the coffee cherries are dried for 1 to 2 weeks with the option of drying whole or after splitting. The drying process is followed by the separation of the coffee beans from the skin using a grinding machine. Farmers generally do not sell their dried coffee beans directly, some store them to sell when prices are highest. Factors such as scarcity and moisture content affect the selling value of coffee beans in the local market, and some farmers consider storage strategies to obtain more favorable prices, (2) The total average household income of farmers in Sebarus Village is Rp29,217,531 per household per year. Household income consists of coffee farm income, other farm income, non-farm income, wife's income and children's income. The largest contributor to household income is obtained from coffee farm income with an average coffee farm income of farmers in Sebarus Village of Rp23,787,531 per hectare per year, (3) Factors that significantly affect coffee farm income in Sebarus Village are land area and coffee selling price. Meanwhile, land area, length of farming, number of family members, garden distance and age of coffee plants do not significantly affect coffee farming income in Sebarus Village.
