Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of Ambon banana peel extract inhibitors on the corrosion rate of ST 42 steel in a NaCl environment. The corrosion rate calculation uses the weight loss formula. The method used in this research is the experimental method. The initial step taken was to cut the specimens, namely specimens 1, 2, 3 and 4. The specimens were given heat treatment at a temperature of 900oC and then cooled with air. After being given heat treatment, the specimen is dipped in inhibitor liquid with different concentrations, namely 0%, 3%, 5% and 7%, and immersed in a corrosive liquid, namely 3% NaCl. The results obtained in this test were that the most effective inhibitor occurred in specimen 4 with an inhibitor concentration of 7% with the lowest corrosion rate, namely 0.0014240805 mpy and the highest corrosion rate occurred in specimen 1 with a concentration of 0%, namely 0.0037008228 mpy. It can be concluded that the Ambon banana peel extract inhibitor affects the rate of corrosion that occurs. Keywords: inhibitor, corrosion rate, Ambon banana peel, specimen.
