Abstract
The research objective was to evaluate the agronomic and physiological traits in 48 maize selection lines and their correlation with yield. The research was conducted from September to December 2008 at Agro Techno Park (ATP), Bakung village, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir South Sumatera. Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications and 48 selection lines as treatment was used in the experiment. The 48 selection lines were grouped into six populations: Bayu, Srikandi Kuning, Lamuru, Bisma, Toray, and Sukmaraga. The yield had highly significant positive correlation with all traits evaluated but the highest were among yield and kemel per row (r = 0.87 **), kemel per ear (r = 0.86 **) and Average Leaf Expansion Rate ( ALER) (r = 0.80 **). The selection lines having relatively high yield, S22, S32, S56 (Sukmaraga), L22 (Lamuru), K24 (Srikandi Kuning), Y3, and Y4 (Bayu) with ear weight of > 102 g (mean + Standard deviation) generally had high kemel per row, kemel per ear, or ALER. The results suggest that these traits may be used as altemative selection criteria to improve yield of maize. r
