Abstract

The research objectives are to evaluate the growth yield and yield components of complex population, to select the top 10% of entries in each population based on the ear weight, and to identify the growth characteristics and yield components relate to the yield (nutrient efficiency). The research was conducted from Januari to April 2008 at Agro Techno Park (ATP), Ogan Ilir, South Sumatera. Experimental design used was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCB) with four replications. The treatment was six com populations, Sukmaraga, Srikandi Kuning, Bayu, Bisma, Lamuru, and Toray-1 with the total of 1000 entries; the selection was based on the mean of ear weight of three sample plants entries population. The results showed that generally Sukmaraga population had the best growth, yield and yield components compared to other populations ; number of entries selected (top 10%) with ear weight > 150 g varied among populations, and all the growth characteristics (plant height, ear leaf area, leaf chlorophyll, number of leaves above the ear) as well as yield component (ear length, ear diameter) related to yield (ear weight).
