Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan berbicara melalui metode Story Telling pada siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 3 Indralaya Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas (classroom action research). Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP Negeri 3 Indralaya Selatan. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII 1 tahun pelajaran 2009/2010 yang berjumlah 34 orang. Prosedur penelitian dimulai dari tahap : perencanaan, implementasi tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik tes. Keberhasilan penelitian tindakan diukur secara klasikal 85%, siswa mendapat nilai 7,65. berdasarkan hasil penelitian di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan berbicara melalui metode Story Telling telah dilakukan selama tiga siklus. Data hasil tes diketahui ketuntasan belajar secara klasikal pada tes awal 7,65%, pada siklus I naik menjadi 47,06%, pada siklus II naik lagi menjadi 73,53% dan pada siklus III kenaikan ketuntasan belajar mencapai 88,24%. Rata-rata kemampuan siswa berbicara pada siklus I 61,76, dan siklus II 66,03, dan siklus III 72,21. Dengan demikian, kemampuan siswa berbicara meningkat melalui penerapan metode Story Telling. Melalui teknik itu, siswa terlihat antusias, aktif, dan senang mengikuti kegiatan pembelajaran. Kata kunci: Story Telling, kemampuan berbicara.
