Abstract

The background of this research is paddy one of the national commodity which has the prospectable business value, so that the increasing paddy is production is again the The increasing paddy is productivity can be gain by the paddy is post harvesting and oncof the effort is by the hulled rice drying. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of temperature, air flow rate, and hulled rice height on /?/7/-type drier performance in order to produce high-quality rice. This study was conduced at Workshop of Agricultural Engineering Study Program, Agricultural Technology Departement, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from 01 March to 01 June 2008. The method used in this study was factorial randomized block design consisted of two levels of temperature, two levels of air flow rate, and two levels of hulled rice height. Each treatment had two replications. The observed parameters were drying period, drying rate, drying capacity, drying efficiency, and whole kernel rice percentage, respectively. The results showed that the best treatment was treatment combination consisting temperature of 45°C, air flow rate of 14.5 m.s'\ and hulled rice height of 27.3 cm or hulled rice volume of 13,000 cm3 that produced drying period of 5.85 h, 6,81 /o.h drying rate, 67.8j% drying efficiency, and 88.79% whole kernel rice. In conclusion, the bin-type drier performance was respectively affected by temperature, air flow rate, and hulled rice height.
