Abstract

Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5) has been associated with respiratory, cardiovascular and lung cancer mortality. Sellers as a group are at risk for PM2.5 exposure from mobile source activities such as transportation activities at Sako Terminal Palembang City. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the environmental health risks of PM2.5 exposure in traders at Sako Terminal Palembang City. This study is a quantitative study with a descriptive approach that applied an environmental health risk analysis method with a deterministic approach to the Central Tendency Exposure scenario. The population and sample of this study amounted to 55 sellers obtained by total sampling. Data were collected through interviews by filling out questionnaires and sampling and analyzing PM2.5 air with the laser analyzer method using the Haz-dust EPAM 5000 tool. Data analysis used univariate analysis to obtain average exposure and risk analysis calculation formula to calculate exposure estimation and risk characteristics. The results showed the average concentration of PM2.5 at 4 measurement points was 0.017 mg/m3. The estimated value of PM2.5 exposure for all respondents was 0.002 mg/kg/day. The RQ value of PM2.5 exposure was obtained as 0.133. All respondents in the exposure had an RQ value <1. The conclusion of this study is that sellers are not at risk of having non-carcinogenic health problems caused by PM2.5 exposure at Sako Terminal, Palembang City. However, the government can conduct studies and routine monitoring of pollutants generated from transportation activities including PM2.5 so as not to endanger sellers in Sako Terminal Palembang City.
