Abstract

Most Indonesians have health problems in the outer body protection system, namely the skin. Scabies is an infectious skin disease caused by the Sarcoptes scabei mite and is often found in crowded places such as dormitories, prisons, and boarding schools where hygiene is not maintained. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge, physical environmental factors, and personal hygiene with the incidence of scabies in students at the Nurussalam Modern Islamic Boarding School in East OKU Regency. This study used a cross-sectional research design with a sample of 114 respondents using proportional random sampling technique. Data collection was done by observation and filling out questionnaires. Data analysis in this study used chi-square test and multiple logistic regression test. The results showed that 56% of respondents experienced the incidence of scabies. Respondents with low knowledge about scabies were 44.7%, the physical quality of clean water was 100% colored and stained, room humidity was 100% unqualified, room temperature was 68.4% unqualified, room lighting was 11.4% unqualified, and poor personal hygiene was 37.7%. It can be concluded that the physical condition of the santri bed environment has not met the requirements according to the standard. It is necessary to improve the layout of the sleeping room and students are expected to maintain personal and environmental hygiene and open windows and doors every day so that sunlight and fresh air can enter the room to prevent the proliferation of scabies mites.
