Abstract

Palembang City is the largest district/city distributor of TB cases in South Sumatra Province, with a total of 7,360 cases, including 1,032 cases of pediatric TB and 6,324 cases of adult TB (≥ 15 years). With so many cases of tuberculosis, patients are required to adhere to treatment so that the ability of the TB bacteria in the body can be reduced and cured to prevent ongoing transmission. The purpose of this study was to analyze how patient characteristics and previous treatment history are related to Tuberculosis treatment adherence in Palembang City in 2022. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. The data used were secondary data obtained from the Tuberculosis Information System (SITB) of the Palembang City Health Office, with a sample of 3,732 respondents using a total sampling technique based on inclusion criteria. The inclusion criteria used in sampling were TB patients with age ≥ 15 years, having employment status, having a history of tuberculosis treatment, and the final results of treatment with the status of recovery, complete treatment, and treatment dropout (lost to follow-up). Data analysis used in this study with univariate and bivariate statistical tests (chi-squared). Based on data analysis, it was found that there was no relationship between patient characteristics such as age (p value = 0.910), gender (p value = 0.53), employment status (p value = 0.131), and previous TB treatment history (p value = 0.407) with TB treatment compliance in Palembang City. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that there is no relationship between patient characteristics and previous Tuberculosis treatment history with Tuberculosis treatment compliance in Palembang City in 2022. The implication of this study is the need for further research related to patient characteristics, treatment history, and other factors that may affect TB treatment adherence. The importance of increasing knowledge and social support can improve adherence to tuberculosis treatment.
