Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is a type of infectious disease that affects the respiratory tract and can be caused by various viruses and bacteria. Every year, ARI causes more than four million deaths worldwide. In the last 3 years, The ISPA's incident at the 7 Ulu Community Health Center has always been one of the 10 most common diseases and it includes in the top 3 in 2020 - 2022. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the characteristics of toddlers, the house physical environment, and the behavior of residents on the ISPA's incident in toddlers in the working area of Puskesmas 7 Ulu, Palembang City. This research used quantitative methods with a cross sectional design using purposive sampling technique as many as 108 respondents. Analyzed using Chi-square test and multiple logistic analysis. The results of data analysis showed that the ISPA's incident was 59 toddlers (54.6%). The results of the chi-square test show that there is a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding (p-value = 0.017), residential density (p-value = 0.002), ventilation area (p-value = 0.003), air humidity (p-value = 0.000), habits of family members who smoke (p-value = 0.022), and the use of mosquito coils (p-value = 0.005) on the ISPA's incident in the work area of Puskesmas 7 Ulu, Palembang City. Variables that were not related to the incidence of ARI included gender (p-value = 0.833), low birth weight (p-value = 1.000), immunization status (p-value = 0.526), room temperature (p-value = 0.204), and habit of opening windows (p-value = 0.730). The results of the multiple logistic regression test showed that the dominant factor in the incidence of ARI was air humidity (p-value = 0.005 and PR = 4.141, 95%CI=1,524-11,124). The conclusion of this research is that the incident of ARI in toddlers is very influenced by air humidity. The research's suggestions are that people expected to open windows and doors at least every morning and install fiber glass or glass tiles so that sunlight can enter the house so as to avoid ARI disease.
