Abstract
The purpose of this research was to determine differences in tolerance of plants to acid soil by using water culture tehnique. This research was conducted ffom February 2012 to June 2012 at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology, Department of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya, Indralaya. This research incorporated Randomized Block Design with 9 accessions of BISI 816 (A0 = control), progeny population of cross between Al (GS-5 x Toray-1), A2 (GS-5 x Toray-2), A3 (GS-10 x Toray-1), A4 (GS-10 x Toray-2) and population of selfing A5 (Toray-1 x Toray-1), A6 (Toray-2 x Toraycom 2), A7 (GS-5 x GS-5), dan A8 (GS-10 x GS-10). Results indicated that com plant accessions derived from Crossing performed better than control and their respective parents. The differences were significant and indicated by the plant height, root length, plant and roots dry weight, and not significantly shown by number of adventives roots. Com accessions that considered to be good tolerance were derived from the cross of accessions of GS-10 x Toray-1 (A3), GS-10 x Toray-2 (A4), GS-5 x Toray-2 (A2), GS-5 x Toray-1 (Al), respectively. This research also revealed that aluminum content in com plants varied depending on accessions. The accessions derived from the cross of GS10 x Toray-2 (A4), seemed to have “exclusive mechanism”, while other crossed accessions showed “inclusive mechanism”.
