Abstract

Microalgae can be used as biomass feedstock and become bioremediation for ammonia in waters. Tetraselmis chuii is a type of microalgae that utilizes nitrogen, namely nitrate and ammonium in the growth process. This study aims to analyze the growth rate of cells, the optimum ammonia concentration for growth rate, and the growth rate of T. chuii biomass production at different ammonia concentrations. This research method uses experimental methods and Complete Randomized Design (RAL) with ammonia addition treatment 0 mg/L, 25 mg/L, 50 mg/L, 75 mg/L, and 100 mg/L and added TSP dose 10 mg/L for each treatment. The cell density and growth rate of T. chuii cells were analyzed with Anova Test. The results showed the highest cell density was in the treatment of 50 mg/L with a total density of 230 x 10⁴ (cells/mL) which occurred on day 4. The most optimal ammonia concentration for T. chuii growth rate is 100 mg/L with the highest growth rate of 0,51 cells/mL/day and the fastest doubling time of 1,36 days. The higher concentration of ammonia, the greater the growth rate of cells and the growth rate of biomass production and the shorter the doubling time.
