Abstract

Lebak swamp is one of the suboptimal lands that can be utilized to increase crop production despite having various limiting factors, especially in nutrient availability. The use of rice husk waste into compost tea can reduce the accumulated husk waste and be utilized to improve soil fertility. One plant that is popular as a healthy food nowadays is kailan. This study aims to test the quality and dose of the best rice husk compost tea that can reduce the use of NPK fertilizer, increase nutrient availability, growth and production in the cultivation of kailan in lebak swamp soil. Research on compost tea making and kailan cultivation was carried out at the shadow house on Jl. Politeknik Bukit Lama, Ilir Barat 1 District, Palembang, South Sumatra (3°00'15.4 "S 104°43'44.5 "E). This research consisted of 2 stages, the first stage was carried out in August-September 2023, while the second stage was carried out in September-March 2024. The research design used in the first stage of the research was a complete randomized design (CRD) with 3 levels of treatment. The treatments tested were the ratio of compost and water 1:5 (b/v) (CT1), the ratio of compost and water 1:10 (b/v) (CT2), and the ratio of compost and water 1: 20 (b/v) (CT3). The treatment tested was the comparison of compost and water composition carried out aerobically. Analysis of the quality of compost tea was conducted at the Chemistry Laboratory of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Raden Fatah and the Testing Laboratory of PT Binasawit Makmur, Sampoerna Agro. The second stage of the research was designed with a randomized group factorial design (RGFD) with 2 factors. The first factor is the dose of rice husk compost tea consisting of: 20 mL plant-1 (P1), 40 mL plant-1 (P2), 60 mL plant-1 (P3), 80 mL plant-1 (P4), and 100 mL plant-1 (P5). The second factor is the different doses of NPK fertilizer recommendations consisting of: 0% (N0), 50% (N1), 75% (N2), and 100% (N3). Initial soil analysis was conducted at the Soil Department Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. Soil analysis after planting and plant nutrient uptake were conducted at Balai Penerapan Standar Instrumen Pertanian Bengkulu. The results of the first stage of the research are the ratio of rice husk compost and water that produces compost tea quality with the highest content of rice husk compost tea 1:5 (b/v). The results of the second stage of research showed that the combination of rice husk compost tea and NPK fertilizer interacted significantly with plant height 28 and 35 day after transplanting, number of leaves 28, 35, and 42 day after transplanting, leaf area, fresh weight of crown and roots, dry weight of crown and roots, and NPK plant tissue. The treatment of compost tea and NPK fertilizer each had a significant effect on plant height at 14, and 42 day after transplanting, number of leaves at 14, and 21 day after transplanting, leaf greenish level, root length, root crown ratio, and also soil pH value at harvest. In soil variables after planting, the main effect of NPK fertilizer significantly affected soil C-organic and NPK contents. The compost tea husk dose of 60 mL tan-1 combined with 100% NPK fertilizer was able to maximize the availability of nutrients by NPK and was able to increase growth, production, and nutrient uptake of N, P, and K kailan, but was not able to reduce the use of NPK fertilizers in lebak swamp soil. Soil NPK content is positively correlated with plant NPK uptake and has a very strong relationship.
