Abstract

EPIKA MELA ATMI, Growth Study And Crossing Efforts To Cross Popcorn And Purplecorn Accessions To Obtain F1 Generation Seeds (Supervised by ENTIS SUTISNA HALIMI and periview by FIKRI ADRIANSYAH) Corn is one of the important foods that has recently been cultivated because the demand for it is increasing. Corn is a food ingredient and is the second source of carbohydrates after rice. This research was conducted on the growth and production of Superior Orange, King Pop, and Yellow Flagship corn plants as females and purple corn as males and aimed to obtain F1 generation seeds from the results of crossing these plants. The method used is a pattern consisting of 3 crossing blocks. The growth of popcorn corn plants used in research shows differences in growth in terms of plant height and cob height compared to purple corn. However, in general they have good compatibility for natural crossing. Plant height and cob height of popcorn corn plants ranges from 102.13 cm – 228.46 cm and 101.26 cm – 106.2 cm and male flowering begins at the age of 45.8 - 48.4 days. The purple corn accession plant (UJ3U) as the male parent has plant height and cob location, 102.13 – 228.46 cm and 101.26 cm – 106.2 cm and male flowering at the age of 46.8 – 48.47 days and begins to have female flowers (cobs) at the age of 54.33 days - 57.66 days. The cross between popcorn corn and purple corn carried out in this research has produced quite a lot of F1 generation seeds, ranging from 2,489 – 4,368 grains. The highest number of seeds was obtained from a cross between purple corn and the superior Yellow and King Pop popcorn varieties. Meanwhile, the color and shape of the seeds resulting from crosses vary. Color variations include seeds, shades of purple and yellow, while variations in seed shape include dent, flint and other shapes. However, the seed color is dominated by yellow while the construction is dominated by dent and flint shapes. Jagung sebagai bahan pangan dan merupakan sumber karbohidrat kedua setelah beras. Penelitian ini dilakukan mengenai pertumbuhan dan produksi dari tanaman Jagung Orange Unggulan, King Pop, dan Yellow Ungulan sebagai betina dan jagung ungu sebagai jantan serta bertujuan untuk mendapatkan benih generasi F1 dari hasil persilangan tanaman tersebut. Metode yang digunakan pola yang terdiri dari 3 blok persilangan. Pertumbuhan tanaman jagung popcorn yang digunakan dalam penelitian, menunjukan perbedaan dalam pertumbuhan dalam hal tinggi tanaman dan tinggi letak tongkol dengan jagung ungu. Namun secara umum memiliki kompatibilitas yang baik untuk dilakukan persilangan secara alami. Tinggi tanaman dan tinggi letak tongkol tanaman jagung popcorn berkisar 102,13 cm – 228,46 cm dan 101,26 cm – 106,2 cm dan mulai berbunga jantan pada umur 45,8 hst - 48,4 hari. Tanaman aksesi jagung ungu (UJ3U) sebagai tetua jantan memiliki tinggi tanaman dan letak tongkol, 102,13 – 228,46 cm dan 101,26 cm – 106,2 cm serta berbunga jantan pada umur 46,8 hst – 48,47 hari dan mulai memiliki bunga betina (tongkol) pada umur 54,33 hari - 57,66 hari. Persilangan antara jagung popcorn dan jagung ungu yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini telah menghasilkan cukup banyak benih generasi F1, yaitu berkisar 2.489 – 4.368 butir. Jumlah benih tertinggi diperoleh dari persilangan antara jagung ungu dan jagung popcorn varietas Yellow Unggulan dan King Pop. Sedangkan Warna dan bentuk benih hasil persilangan bervariasi.Variasi warna benih meliputi, nuasan ungu, dan kuning, sedangkan variasi bentuk biji meliputi, dent, flint dan bentuk lainnya. Namun demikian, warna benih didominasi oleh warna kuning sementara bentuknya didominasi oleh bentuk dent dan flint. Kata kunci : Jagung, Ungu, Persilangan, Pertumbuhan
