Abstract

This study aimed to observe the effect of manure and bunch ash of oil palm growth and yield of melon (Cucumis melo L.). This study was conducted in May 2012 to July 2012, in the garden of Agriculture Faculty , University of Sriwijaya on Indralaya. The design used in this study was a Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) arranged in two factors with the first factor consists of five Standard treatmcnt and the second factor consisted of four Standard treatment was repeated three times, so there are 60 treatment units. Each unit consists of six treatment plants, so the total of 360 plants. The treatments tested from the first factor can used manure with dose (0.50 kg planting hole"1), (1.00 kg planting hole'1), (1.50 kg planting hole' ’), and (2.00 kg planting hole'1). Thcn from the second factor used oil palm bunch ash with dose (15 g planting hole*1), (30 g planting hole'1), (45 g planting hole'1), (60 g planting hole1) and withoui oil palm bunch ash (control). This research showed that fertilization manure of chicken with 0.50 kg dosage of planting hole 1 could givc effect on the plant hcight, timc out of male flowers and female flowers, and increase sugar content of fruit and harvest index of melon. Provision of palm bunch ash with 60 g dosage of planting hole’1 could give effect on the plant height, fruit weight, fresh weight, dry weight of plant and increase sugar contcnt in melon. While the combination treatment of chicken manurc and palm buneh ash with 0.50 kg dosage of planting hoie*1 and 60 g dosage palm buneh ash of planting hole'1 influential on increasing fruit weight and sugar content in melon.
