Abstract
The spread of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is one of the factors in the decline of the population. FMD is an infectious disease that is susceptible to even-toed animals. This research aims to study the post-FMD reproduction of beef cattle in the East. The implementation of the research was carried out from July to August 2023 in East Java Province. The methods used in this study are quantitative using a survey approach, sample withdrawal by purposive sampling, primary data collection methods, and secondary data. Its rapid spread certainly has a large impact on losses. The research parameters consisted of the type of beef cattle, vaccine history, cows returning to estrus, length of recovery from FMD, cows experiencing pregnancy, cow age, body score, type of feed, and reproductive disorders in post-FMD beef cattle. The results of this study showed that the average in beef cattle breed was 3%–49%, length of recovery from FMD was 12%–58%, vaccination history was 16%–33%, cows returned to estrus were 16%–44%, cows were pregnant again were 30%–70%, age of cattle was 24%–76%, body score of cattle was 6%–64%, and type of feed was 7%–57%. 56% of cows had no reproductive disorders; ovarian hypofunction was 21%; endrometritis was 12%; puberty delay was 4%; follicular cysts were 3%; and placental retention and atrophy were 1%. The post-FMD reproductive status in East Java Province has a good reproductive status; however, the reproductive performance of beef cattle after experiencing a slowdown in reproductive performance with a long estrus cycle caused by the length of time livestock recover from FMD, in addition to the low success of pregnancy caused by decreased feed intake during infection, will reduce BCS, so that there are deviations in the performance of reproductive hormones. Other economic impacts of FMD are reduced income for farmers, inhibition of beef cattle growth in heifers, and decreased employment rates.
