Abstract

The aim of this research was to evaluate the growth and yield of sweet com as intercrops after planting of vegetables crops (chilly, tomatoes and long yard bean). The research was held on October 2004 to January 2005 in Experimental Farm of Agriculture Faculty Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. This research consisted of six treatments there were seeding sweet com between gambir plant after planting of chilly (Pl), after planting of tomatoes (P2), after planting of long yard bean (P3), seeding only sweet com after planting of chilly (Ml), after planting of tomatoes (M2) and after planting of long yard bean (M3). Randomized Completely Block Design with three replications was applied. Based on this research, it could be concluded that intercrops sweet com and gambir plant grew better if it was planted after tomatoes (P2) than if it was planted after chilly (Pl) and if it was planted after long yard bean (P3). Growth and production of sweet com planting in polyculture system with gambir plant was better than in monoculture system. It might be caused by residual effect of fertilizer applied in intercrops before conducting this research.
