Abstract

This research discusses Trends in Election Participation via Instagram: Palembang City KPU'sstrategy in increasing political participation in the Presidential and Vice Presidential Electionsthrough Instagram Content. The background to this research is that in the 2014-2019 electionsfor President and Vice President, there was an increase in public participation. The reason thereis an increase in society is whether it is influenced by social media Instagram or not. The theoryin this research is Mintzberg's theory of organizational strategy which consists of 4 dimensions,namely Pattem, Policy, Planning, and Perspective. The type of research used is descriptive witha qualitative research approach method. Based on the results of research conducted, Instagramis only one of the strategies used. Many other strategies lead to increased communityparticipation, such as outreach to schools and universities, holding election parades to socializethe election of the President and Vice President, and many more. Judging from the researchresults obtained, it is recommended that the General Election Commission (KPU) ofPalembang City improve the content posted on the Instagram platform so that it attracts moreattention from followers and viewers so that it can be an effective and efficient strategy andcan increase public participation.
