Abstract

This study aims to determine the Probit model and the factors that significantly affect the length of student study period. The method used is Probit regression analysis for dependent variables which are categorized into two, namely on time and late. The data analyzed were respondents of mathematics students of FMIPA Sriwijaya University Class of 2019 and 2020 who were taking Final Projects in the Even semester of 2023/2024 as many as 95 students. Factors that allegedly affect the length of the study period are Grade Point Average (GPA), SULIET Score (SUL), Organization Participation (ORG), Final Project Data Source (SD), Guidance Intensity (IB), Lecturer Field of Expertise (BKDos), Final Project Topic (TTA), and Gender of Supervisor (JKD). All observed factors are of categorical type. The multicollinearity test of these variables was carried out using Cramer correlation which resulted in that the correlation value between variables was less than 0.8. The results of Probit regression modeling for the length of the study period were P(Y=1)=Φ[-5,464+2,097GPA-1,077SUL-1,526SD+2,158TTA-2,818BKDos+3,660JKD]. The model obtained is statistically significant at α=10%. Significant independent variables are GPA, SULIET Score, Data Source, Final Project Topic, Lecturer's Field of Expertise, and Supervisor's Gender. The model obtained yielded a Pseudo R2 value of 0.60, meaning that 60% of the variance of the independent variable could explain the factors affecting the length of the study period. The model provides a level of accuracy in classifying prediction results of 92.63%, meaning that the model is very high in accuracy in predicting the length of study period of students majoring in Mathematics FMIPA Sriwijaya University.
