Abstract
This study aims to determine how the role of grit on school engagement in islamic boarding school (pesantren) students. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a role of grit on school engagement in islamic boarding school students. Respondents in this study were 170 islamic boarding school students who lived in pesantren during their education (santri mukim) in Palembang City. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The measuring instrument for the school engagement variable in this study was made by researcher using the dimensions of school engagement from Fredricks et al. (2004) and the grit variable was made by the researcher referring to the dimensions of grit from Duckworth et al. (2007). Data analysis in this study used simple regression techniques. The result of the regression analysis showed that the R square value between grit and school engagement was 0,283, the F value was 66,354, and the significance value was 0,000 (p <0,05). From these results, it can be concluded that grit has a significant role on school engagement and the hypothesis proposed in this study is accepted.
