Abstract
Electricity is an important aspect in human life that is increasing with the development of technology and population growth. PT. PLN UP2D S2JB is responsible for regulating the distribution of electricity in the South Sumatra, Jambi, and Bengkulu regions. The use of VRLA batteries in the PLN electricity network plays a role in maintaining the reliability and operational stability of the LBS during power outages. This study aims to evaluate the condition of VRLA batteries at each LBS location and measure battery efficiency. The analysis results show that out of 4 LBS locations, there are 2 locations with efficiency above 80%, namely LBS Banten 94% and LBS Lebak Murni 90%, with a decrease in efficiency of 1-2% per month. Meanwhile, the other 2 locations have efficiency below 80%, namely LBS Pos 6 Auri 73% and LBS Silaberanti 65%. These two locations experience a decrease in efficiency of 4-6% per month. One of the factors causing the decrease in battery efficiency is the frequent charging process, as well as current spikes due to disturbances in the electricity network that damage the cells in the battery. Excessive discharge can increase internal resistance, causing a decrease in battery quality and efficiency. Optimization of the battery charging and discharging processes is needed, such as using special measuring devices to monitor charging, discharging, and implementing a system for regular monitoring and current control to maintain optimal battery performance at each LBS.
