Abstract

Background. Stroke has a fairly large prevalence in Indonesia, according to basic Indonesian health research in 2013 as many as 12.1% of the entire population of Indonesia had a stroke and the highest incidence was in Southern Sulawesi. Two-thirds of stroke sufferers experience a decline in cognitive function which decreases the quality of life for post-stroke patients. But many things can affect the decline in cognitive function in post-stroke patients and affect the degree of decline. Method. This research is a descriptive research. The sample in this study was post-stroke patients at Dr. RSUP Mohammad Hoesin Palembang with the consecutive sampling method. 86 samples met the inclusion criteria and had passed the minimum sample size of 70 Results. Respondents with an age range of 45-65 years with male sex experienced more decline in cognitive function, respondents who had risk factors such as a history of hypertension, a history of recurrent stroke and not taking nootropic drugs also had lower degrees of cognitive function. Conclusion. Old age, male sex with a history of hypertension, recurrent strokes and nonootropic drugs have a more severe degree of decline in cognitive function
