Abstract

This research was conducted to be able to explore how the form of social capital is established between two families through the kance waoh tradition using the study of Francis Fukuyama's social capital theory. The tradition of little engagement or kance waoh is one form of engagement tradition involving children as brides which continues to be preserved today, especially in the Sugih Waras Village area, Rambang District, Muara Enim Regency. This tradition aims to add family members and not binding. The method used is descriptive qualitative with ethnographic research strategies to explore the cultural meaning contained in it. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that the social capital established between the two families through the kance waoh tradition has basically been established since long before the engagement ceremony for their children and grandchildren was carried out. The mutual trust and good friendship that has been built between the two family members for a long time then raises the desire to be able to support their descendants. The engagement that has been carried out then causes reciprocal effects such as visiting each other, giving goods and energy in event activities and disasters and cooperative interactions between two families.
