Abstract

ABSTRACT Dandruff is a condition of exfoliation of dead skin in the form of yellowish white flakes accompanied by itching due to the detachment of the stratum corneum layer of the scalp. Factors influencing the presence of dandruff are the environment (temperature and humidity) and the overgrowth of M. furfur. Dandruff treatment generally uses chemical shampoos, but can cause side effects. Therefore, alternative natural materials such as biological agents are used, namely endophytic fungi. Endophytic fungi of kabau fruit produce bioactive compounds with potential as antifungal agents. Testing antifungal activity by knowing the minimum inhibitory concentration value of endophytic fungal extracts to be used as medicinal materials so as not to cause side effects. This study aims to obtain the potential of 3 extracts of Botrytis, Fusarium sp. and Culvularia in inhibiting the growth of M. furfur, obtain the class of compounds from endophytic fungal extracts as antifungal and obtain the minimum inhibitory concentration value of endophytic fungal extracts against M. furfur growth. Three endophytic fungal extracts of kabau fruit had moderate inhibitory potential against M. furfur Botrytis (8 mm), Fusarium sp. (9.5 mm) and Culvularia (8.2 mm). Botrytis, Fusarium sp. and Culvularia extracts contain terpenoids, phenols, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids and tannins that have antifungal activity. The minimum inhibitory concentration of Botrytis 125 µg/m.l Fusarium sp. and Culvularia 62.5 µg/ml.
