Abstract
Individuals who behave in narcissism tend to love themselves too much. This affects social interactions both directly and on social media, especially on the WhatsApp application which is predominantly used as a communication medium. This research aims to determine the level of narcissistic behavior in the use of WhatsApp social media among students at SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara. The method in this research uses quantitative descriptive. The data collection technique uses a Likert scale. Data were analyzed using the percentage formula (%) using the Microsoft Excel 2019 application. The population of this study was class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 North Indralaya as many as 145 people. The sample was taken using a proportional stratified random sampling technique of 106 people. The results of the research show that students have a level of narcissistic behavior in the medium category with a percentage of 56%, followed by the high category at 6% and the low category at 38%. Specifically, there are no aspects in the high category, but 5 of the 9 aspects in the medium category, namely believing that oneself is unique and special, aspects that require excessive admiration, feeling entitled to be special, lacking empathy and being arrogant. The aspects that have the largest number are the aspect of believing that oneself is unique and special and the arrogance aspect. From these results, it means that guidance and counseling teachers need to create guidance and counseling programs such as group guidance and group counseling using the right approach to minimize students who behave in narcissism.
