Abstract

This research is entitled "Function and Meaning of Palembang Songket Cloth Decorations (Contribution to Local History Learning)". Meanwhile, the aim of this research is to find out the function and meaning of the Palembang songket cloth decoration. As we know, songket is a heritage and culture that must be preserved. This research was conducted using historical methods. The historical method procedure begins with the Heuristic process (data collection), Source Criticism, Interpretation and Historiography, with data collection techniques through literature study, documentation and interviews. The results of this research explain that each motif depicted on a piece of songket cloth has its own meaning, this meaning was born from a different background, so it has different meanings. In general, the decorative variations found in songket cloth patterns usually reflect human hopes and depict the social life of society. Keywords : History, Decoration, Motifs, Songket Cloth
