Abstract

Elephantiasis disease is caused by filarial worms through its main vector, Culex spp. Mosquito control efforts that are safe for the environment use natural attractants using trapping. The purpose of the study was to determine the number and type of mosquitoes trapped, the concentration that has the most potential to attract Culex spp. mosquitoes and the effect of environmental conditions. The research was conducted in Pahlawan Village, Kemuning District, Palembang City and Biosystematics Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University, January to March 2024. Experimental research using non-factorial RAK with 6 treatments and 4 repetitions with a total of 48 traps, consisting of two stations and concentrations of rice straw soaking 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.8%, 1.6%, 3.2% and control (20% lactic acid). Parameters observed were the number and type of mosquitoes trapped, the concentration that trapped the most Culex spp. mosquitoes, attractant parameters of pH, color and odor, and environmental parameters of temperature and humidity. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan's test. The results of the study obtained 120 Culex spp. consisting of 91 Culex spp. and 29 Aedes spp. mosquitoes, 0.8% concentration trapped the most Culex spp. mosquitoes.
