Abstract

Background. Musculoskeletal disorders, such as problems with the bones, joints, muscles, and connective tissue, cause pain and impaired function. Throughout the world, 1.71 billion people experience musculoskeletal disorders, with a prevalence in Indonesia of around 11.9%–24.7%. Risk factors include heavy work, smoking, psychosocial work demands, and a history of illness. Even age, gender, and BMI influence this musculoskeletal disorder. This research was conducted in Sekip Jaya to highlight the prevalence and characteristics of musculoskeletal complaints as well as their association to chronic pain. This encourages further research on risk factors in the Sekip Jaya , Palembang. Methods. This research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach carried out in Sekip Jaya, Palembang, in December. The sampling technique used was multistage random sampling with SPSS version 22 for data processing. Analysis was carried out using univariate and bivariate methods. Results. In this study, from a total population of 600 subjects, a sample size of 51 was calculated using the cross-sectional population proportion estimation formula. The results show that in both the age groups ≥30 years (94.1%) and <30 years (5.9%), the risk of musculoskeletal complaints tends to be low. Risk level of musculoskeletal complaints had a significant association with the history of injury of the respondent (p = 0,034). But, in this study did not show a significant association between the risk level of musculoskeletal complaints with age (p = 1,000), gender (p = 0,673), BMI (p = 0,436), and smoking (p = 0,364). Conclusion. A significant association was found between the risk level of musculoskeletal complaints and history of injury. Keywords. The risk level of musculoskeletal complaints, history of injury
