Abstract

Peat is an option in the development and improvement of agricultural cultivation in Indonesia. Peatland has constraints on the physical and Chemical properties. One way to improve crop productivity in the peatland that is by doing a follow up study on land carrying capacity that serves to provide a description of the land. The purpose of research was to asses the carrying capacicty of peatland on Palm oil plants based on a limiting factor. Pre observation survey was conducted in January 2013, while field observations carried out from April until June 2013. The research was used a survey method of semi scale detail map 1: 40.000. Observation and sampling soil were determined by purposive sampling method, which is based on the growth of different crops on the same plant age with blocks of different plants. Results of the research of land carrying capacity in PT. Rambang Agro Jaya, showed soil colour was dark brown and depth of peat was more than six meters. The level of maturity of peat was dominated by saprik (mature) and hemik (semi mature), drainage conditions was good and rather good. The average of moisture content in the location of research was 48.95% and the average of the bulk density of the soil content was 0.49 g/cm3. Chemical properties of soil in the location of research has soil pH was which sour (3,47 until 4, 10). N-total content were to high and very high (0.70 to 0,97%) with N-total reserves was 71.40 to 150,66 kg/ha, and the availability of Ntotal in the soil was 71.40 to 150,66 kg/ha. P205 nutrient was medium to very high (41,44 sampai 307,31 mg P205/kg) and the availability of the item on the ground 34,80 to 571,59 kg/ha of P205. K20 nutrient was low to very high (0,38 sampai 2,68 cmol K20/kg) with the availability in the land was 23,62 to 113,17 kg/ha K20. Assessment of the adequacy of N, P, and K nutrient for the plant was still enough yet, particularly P and K. Land suitability class in the location of research was land suitability class S3 with the most influential factor was the depth of the peat. While the land capability classes are obtained from the results of the calculations of benefit and adverse factors. Benefit factors consist of nutrient content (N, P, and K), the relationship of soil humidity and plants (organic matter and the level of maturity of the peat), the capacity of absorption of nutrient (soil pH), the condition of drainage, and effective depth. The adverse factors was condition of ground water level. Plantation of PT. Rambang Agro Jaya included in land capability class IV and V which has a limiting factor being and little damage.
