Abstract
After-Heated Storage is storing palm oil seed which has been through breaking dormancy treatments (soaking-1, drying and heating) to delay germination of palm oil seed that has not been necessary to germinatcd. Soaking treatment is a method increase the moisture content of seeds that stored for a long periods. The research was aimed to know the effects of storage and soaking afterheated on the seed and seedling viability of DxP Sriwijaya. This study conducted from February up to September 2013 in the Seed Processing Unit (SPU) PT Bina Sawit Makmur, Sampoerna Agro. The research consisted of two experiments. Experiment I is the effect of seed storage and soaking treatment for seed viability. Experiment II is to know growth of pre-nursery seedling caused by seed storage. Experiment I used factorial design and arranged in the randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The first factor was seed storage period (without storage, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 10 weeks and 12 weeks). The second factor was soaking period (3 days, 5 days and 7 days). Experiment II use single RCBD design that consist of storage factor only. The result showed that storage period until 12 weeks did not reduce viability of palm oil seed. Storage treatment that has best growth rate is storage for 6 weeks, while soaking treatment is soaking for 7 days. The combination of storage and soaking treatments were not significantly different on all variables in experiment I. Whereas the vegetative growth of seedlings, plant dry weight, ungrowed sprout, and percentage of abnormal seedlings was not affected by seed storage period.
