Abstract
Observation to find out the influence of the raw materials and extraction method on recovery and quality of galanga oil was conducted at Processing Laboratory of Research Institute for Industry and Trade, Palembang. Treatments applied was fresh rhizome and dried rhizome and length distillation consisted of 4,6,8, and 10 hours and extraction by using ethanol solvent. Blocking randomized design arranged factorially was used 3 replications. This research was aimed to increase the recovery and quality of galanga oil. Obsevations were done on the yield of galanga oil and chemical composition. The result showed that the optimum distillation condition was 8 hours. Such distillation condition produced 0.748% oil yield with characteristics as follow: specific gravity 0.9518, refractive index 1,4801, acid number 1,421, ester number 86,017, and total chemical component content of 22,62%. The feasibility was indicated by positive NPV of, its Net BC Ratio value which was higher than that unity (3,1) and BEP 10,8 first years. Furthermore, the result o this study can be used an appropriated effective method of galangal oil extraction method.
