Abstract
Adaptive capacity is a system in adapting to a disruptive threat to reduce the risk of loss. Adaptive capacity can be a process of adaptation to the ability of individuals or community groups to deal with flood disasters in order to reduce losses experienced by the community in Lorong Langgar, Kelurahan 20 Ilir D II, Palembang City. This study aims to interpret the adaptive capacity of the community in dealing with floods. The research method uses descriptive qualitative methods and uses case study research strategies. This study uses the theory of social adaptation from Gerungan. The results of this study show that the adaptive capacity of the community in dealing with floods is divided into two, namely active adaptation and passive adaptation. Where active adaptation can be: Anticipating flood preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and wanting to repair the house. While passive adaptation can be: Understanding conditions during floods, cleaning homes and post-flood environments. The driving factor is still wanting to survive in the location and community activities: Mutual assistance in cleanliness in the RT environment. However, there are also factors that hinder the community in dealing with floods, namely lack of public awareness of environmental cleanliness, and unable to cooperate with hygiene parties.
