Abstract

Musi River is one of the longest rivers in Sumatra, many activities along the Musi River flow ranging from sand mining activities, industrial activities, ports, transportation to settlements. The high level of community activity has directly increased waste disposal and polluted the waters of the Musi River. One of them is the disposal of plastic waste which can later form microplastics. Microplastics are small plastic waste with a size of <5 mm, mostly derived from the decomposition of large plastics. Based on its size, microplastics are susceptible to consumption by aquatic biota, one of which is lumajang fish (Cyclocheilichthys enoplos). The presence of microplastics in lumajang fish can affect the physiology of fish and humans through the food chain, because lumajang fish is one of the fish consumed by the Palembang City community. This research aims to determine the type and percentage of microplastics contained in the digestive tract of lumajang fish (Cyclocheilichthys enoplos) in the Musi River Waters of Palembang City, South Sumatra. This research used purposive random sampling method. The results showed the abundance of microplastics in lumajang fish amounted to 676 particles. The types of microplastics identified were fiber, film, fragments and pellets, with the percentage of fiber 62,27%, film 28,84%, fragments 7,84% and pellets 1,03%.
