Abstract

The aim of this rcsearch was to determine the effect of soaking times on the germination of Japan rice genotypes as compared to Indonesian genotypes. This research was conducted from November to December 2013 at The Department of Agronomi, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. The experimental design being used was Split plots design with 3 replications. The Main plot were zero soaking time (To), 3 days soaking (Tj), 6 days soaking (T2), and 9 days soaking (T3). While the sub plot were Japan genotypes including Mala Noir IV, CN 540 (Deep water), FR 13 A, IR 60608-B-2R-16-2-2-3, IR 60608-B-2R-16 -2-2-3, LR 67 520-B- 14-1-3-2-2, IR 70027-8-2-2-3-2, 73020-19 IR-2-B-3-2B (Sub-mergence), IR 60608- B-2R-13-2-1-1 -3-2, IR 62293-2B-18-22-3-2-3, IR 72 431-5B-18-B-10-1, IR 72 442- 6B-3-2-1-1 (Elongation), IR 07F323 (AG Sub-1) respectively and 5 Indonesian genotypes i.e. : Ciherang, IR 64 (Superior national), INPARI 29 (Superior national + Sub 1), Yellow, and local genotype (White). The results showed that soaking times gave significant difference on lenght of seedling, seedling dry weight, seed dry weight, and endosperm dry weight. There was also significant difference on lenght of seedling and seedling dry weight one week after recovery.
