Abstract
The research was conducted in the Laboratory of Phytopathology, Departement of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from May to October 2014. The objectives of the research were : 1). To determine the highest dilution of Setora nitens virus which can retain the pathogenicity of the virus against Setothosea asigna, 2). To figure out the mortality of S. asigna inculated with S. nitens virus at various dilutions. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with 9 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were I = 500 ml water plus 20 grams homogenized infected S. nitens caterpillars as stocksolution, treatment II = 10'1 dilution of stock solution, treatmen III = 1 O'2 dilution of stock solution, treatment IV = 10'3 dilution of stock solution, treatment V = 10"4 dilution of stock solution, treatmen VI = 10'5 dilution of stock solution, treatment VII = 10-6 dilution of stock solution, treatment VIII = 10'7 dilution of stock solution dilution of stock solution, and control (sterile water). The resulets showed that S. asigna larvae infected by S. nitens virus changed their shape and blackened color and slower movement. Their spines no longer erected when being touched and eventually the larvae died with softened body. The mortality of treatment I was 96,7 %, treatment II was 96,7%, treatment III was 93,3%, treatment IV was 100%, treatment V was 100%, treatment VI was 90%, treatment VII 96,7%, treatment VIII was 90% and control was 0%. The ability of larvae to transform to pupal stage was in accordance with the number of survived larva, all survived larva transformed to pupal stadia. The shortest LT50 was of treatment V (87,386 hours) and the longest was of treatmen II (111,870 hours). Based on these results, the most effective treatment was VIII because its mortality was high even though not significantly different from other treatment.
