Abstract

Stunting is short stature with a PB/U Z-score <-2SD which occurs due to the accumulation of chronic nutritional problems. SSGI 2022 reported that there were 25.4% of stunting cases in Musi Rawas. The 2021 South Sumatra Health Profile reports breast milk coverage of 45.4%. The low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding indicates poor breastfeeding practices in Musi Rawas Regency which has an impact on children's nutritional status. Therefore, further research needs to be carried out to determine the relationship between maternal characteristics and breastfeeding practices in breastfeeding mothers and the nutritional status of infants 0-24 months in Musi Rawas Regency. This research is quantitative research using analytical observational with a cross sectional approach. The data obtained was subjected to univariate and bivariate analysis. The sample in this study consisted of 99 breastfeeding mothers and babies 0-24 months who were taken using simple random sampling. The data collection method uses a questionnaire and measuring the baby's body length according to WHO standards. There are 14.1% of children experiencing stunting. There is a significant relationship between maternal education (p= 0.030) and breastfeeding practices with nutritional status (p= 0.000). There was no relationship between maternal age (p=0.729), maternal occupation (p= 0.630), economic status with nutritional status (p=1.000). It is important to increase maternal health education about the importance of good breastfeeding practices.
