Abstract

The first 1000 days of life (HPK) is a critical period for child growth. One specific nutritional intervention is exclusive breastfeeding. Breast milk is rich in nutrients, including growth factors like IGF-1, which play a crucial role in linear growth or infant length status. Therefore, further research is needed to analyze the relationship between breast milk IGF-1 levels and nutritional status among children aged 0-24 months in Musi Rawas District. This study employed an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional approach, involving a sample of 62 mothers and infants receiving breast milk aged 0-24 months. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, 3x24-hour food recalls, nutritional status measurements, and breast milk sampling. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses using chi-square and Fisher's exact tests. The univariate test results showed that 48 children had non-stunted nutritional status (77.4%), with a median breast milk IGF-1 level of 0.909 ng/dl. Bivariate analysis results indicated no significant relationship between breast milk IGF-1 levels and nutritional status among children aged 0-24 months (p-value = 0.761). However, other results showed a significant relationship between protein intake and nutritional status among children aged 6-24 months (p-value = 0.001), and no significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding history and nutritional status among children aged 0-24 months (p-value = 0.727). In conclusion, there is no relationship between IGF-1 levels and child nutritional status. Suggestions for further research include exploring other variables that may affect child nutritional status during the first 1000 days of life..
