Abstract
This research aims to study the limiting factors of physical and chemical properties of soil in rice plants and how to overcome these limiting factors. This research was carried out in October 2018 in the rice field area of the swampland in Pulokerto Village, Gandus Sub-district, South Sumatra. This study, using an intensive level survey method with a research area of 5 ha. Observations and measurements made directly to the field. The sample points consist of 10 points taken by the grid method, at each point representing 0.5 ha. Soil samples taken at a depth of 0-120 cm from the surface layer of the soil. Variables observed in the field are generally effective depth > 50 cm. The parameters analyzed in the laboratory are chemical properties in the form of soil pH 4.22 - 4.65 which are classified as very acidic and acidic, N-total is classified as low, with a range of 0.14 - 0.17%, P-available is classified as low to moderate, with a range of 14.7- 22.9 (ppm), and K is classified as very high between 2.6 - 7.9 (cmol / kg), the results show the limiting factors for rice plants are nutrient retention which consists of (CEC and pH), with CEC values that are classified as low and pH values that are classified as very acid and sour. As well as available nutrients consisting of elements (N and P), with N-total content that is classified as low and the content of elements P varies from low to moderate. How to overcome the limiting factors of rice cultivation in this study site after adding inputs, namely the addition of organic matter, liming and fertilizing to increase the carrying capacity of the land to the growth rate and development of rice plants in the study location.
