Abstract

The research area is located under PT's mining business license (IUP). Gorby Putra Utama, in the Rawas Ilir district of North Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra. This research aims to identify materials indicated as potentially acid-forming (PAF) and non-acid-forming (NAF), as well as factors influencing the formation of acid mine drainage (AMD) in the research area. This study also aims to describe the distribution model and volume of potentially acid-forming (PAF) and non-acid-forming (NAF) materials and to correlate visual material conditions with NAG pH on potentially acid-forming (PAF) and non-acid-forming (NAF) materials. The research was conducted in the Southern Pit Area of MSMBSA with a 1km × 1km research area. Before conducting field observations, observation and sampling locations were determined using simple random sampling (SRS) or random sampling adjusted to field conditions. The sampling method was composite sampling, where similar materials were mixed and packed using airtight sample plastic. Data collected was divided into two categories: material samples and material pH data measured using soil-moisture pH meters. During field observation, material samples were taken from a depth of 0-20 cm from the surface, totaling 5kg using the composite method. Interburden and overburden layers were visually identified at 21 observation points and analyzed using the net acid generation (NAG) test. Material properties classification was conducted through geochemical analysis using four parameters: total sulfur, acid neutralizing capacity (ANC), net acid-producing potential (NAPP), and maximum potential acidity (MPA). Geological identification results showed that the research area is located in the Muara Enim Formation (M4), consisting of shale, mudstone, sandstone, and coal. Coal in the research area is divided into four seams: seam U1, seam U2, seam L11, and seam L12. The geomorphology in the research area is a unit of anthropogenic landforms caused by land degradation from mining land clearing, with the presence of acid mine drainage ponds or pits. Material layers were modeled using section 2D tools in the Minescape 5.7 application to determine the types of PAF and NAF materials, and the volume of PAF and NAF materials was calculated using triangle volume cut and fill tools. Geochemical identification results showed that the overburden layer is dominated by non-acid-forming rock with a volume of 121.373.745,65bcm, while the interburden layer is potentially acid-forming with a volume of 5.413.075,39bcm. This is due to the oxidation of sulfide minerals (pyrite) in rocks and high sulfur content in oxidized coal with air and water, making the rocks in the interburden layer potentially acid-forming. In the research area, there are also many occurrences of scid mine drainage or yellowbot in several MSMBSA areas.
