Abstract

Every year the population of Indonesia experiences a significant increase, the increasing population can cause problems, one of which is the increasing amount of domestic waste. The amount of domestic waste can be dangerous if not treated properly. One alternative that can be used to reduce environmentally friendly waste pollutant levels is using a constructed wasteland system. This research is an experiment where laboratory tests will be carried out to determine the effect of residence time on the levels of Indralaya civil engineering canteen wastewater pollutants using a subsurface flow type constructed wetland before and after entering the constructed wetland tub. This test uses the help of sand and gravel media and water jasmine plants. The initial conditions of gray water waste from the Indralaya civil engineering canteen in laboratory testing are, BOD 942.4 mg/L, temperature 30 C, and pH 7.11. The efficiency of reducing pollutant levels with a residence time of 24 hours the BOD value was 11.09% for the first day, 6.24% for the second day, 13.31% for the third day, 7.68% for the fourth day, - 41.60% for the fifth day, and 11.75% for the sixth day, while for a residence time of 48 hours the BOD value was 22.19% for the second day, 48.51% for the fourth day, and - 0.28% for the third day.
