Abstract
Humans have a body defense system in the form of innate antioxidants to fight free radical attacks. These radicals often trigger reactions that continue, and if they occur in the body, they will damage cells for a long time. This study aims to determine the phytochemical screening and characteristics of SSL-060 sponge methanol extract and determine antioxidant activity using KLT (dot-blot) and DPPH methods against extracts. SSL-060 sponge extraction was obtained by the Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction method using methanol solvent p.a., followed by evaporation with rotavapor. Based on the results of the study screening, the extract showed it had secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, triterpenoids, and phenolics. The extract is made in several concentrations and tests for antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity testing with an IC50 value for SSL-060 methanol extract showed antioxidant activity of 745,71 ppm. The antioxidant ability of SSL-060 methanol extract is classified as very weak. The IC50 value for the positive control (vitamin C) obtained at 1,414 ppm indicates very strong antioxidant activity. The results of the independent T-test obtained a value on Sig.(2-tailed) of 0.000, which showed a significant difference in free radical capture between SSL-060 methanol extract and vitamin C.
