Abstract

Weeds are plant whose presence is undesirable on agricultural land because they can inhibit plant growth and development. The presence of weeds in cultivated areas can reduce the quality and quantity of harvests. Imperata, asystasia and nutsedge are among the types of weeds that are often found and are very difficult to control in cultivated plant areas. One way to to ensure that weeds in cultivated plant areas do not reduce the quality and efficiency of plants is that they need to be controlled. One alternative control that can be done is by utilizing allelopathy from mango leaf extract. This reserch aims to obtain concentrations and assess the potential of mango leaf extract which can inhibit the growth and control of imperata, asystasia and nutsedge. This research was carried out at the Green House, Plant Physiology Laboratory Agriculture Faculty, and Chemistry Laboratory of Faculty Mathematics and Natural Sciences Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra. The research was carried out for 3 months, namely from August to October 2023. The design used in this research was the Split Plot Design, with the main plot the main types of weeds and as subplots the being the concentration level of plant leaf extract. The treatments were the main plot: G1 = alang-alang, G2 = asystasia and G3 = nutsedge. Subplots: M1 = mango leaf extract 20%, M2 = mango leaf extract 30%, M3 = mango leaf extract 40%, M4 =mango leaf extract 50%, M5 = mango leaf extract 60%, M6 = mango leaf extract 70% , and M7 = 80% mango leaf extract. Each treatment was repeated 3 times, so that in total there would be 21 x 3 = 63 experimental units. The research results of the study showed that there was a administration of mango leaf extract with a concentration of 70% was effective in inhibiting the height of asystasia and reducing the number of asystasia and nutsedge leaves and was effective in inhibiting root length growth, reducing wet weight and dry weight of imperata, asystasia, and nutsedge. In addition, when administering the mango leaf extract with a concentration of 60% are effective against the phytotoxicity of imperata, asystasia and nutsedge wich shows number 4 with a poisoning level of >50%.
