Abstract

Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae is a unicellular microalgae with a habitat in freshwater that is known for its benefits and high production costs. In an effort to reduce these production costs, snakehead fish farming wastewater can be utilized as a growing medium for H. pluvialis. Some research that has been done, obtained the results of H. pluvialis culture in liquid waste alone has not produced maximum growth, therefore H. pluvialis culture still requires additional nutrients in the form of Walne fertilizer. However, for snakehead fish farming waste, the best dosage of Walne fertilizer as a growing medium for H. pluvialis is not yet known. This study aimed to determine the right dose of Walne fertilizer that produces the maximum density and specific growth rate of H. pluvialis. This research has been conducted in the Basic Laboratory of Fisheries, Aquaculture Laboratory and Experimental Pond, Aquaculture Study Program and Microbiology and Biotechnology Laboratory of Fishery Products, Fishery Products Technology Study Program, Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University in December 2023 to January 2024. This research applied a completely randomized design that consisted of five treatments and three replicates, namely 0 mL (P0), 0.25 mL (P1), 0.50 mL (P2), 0.75 mL (P3), 1 mL (P4) of Walne fertilizer in 1 L of liquid waste of snakehead fish farming. The results of this research showed that Walne fertilizer with a dose of 0.75 mL in 1 L of liquid waste of snakehead fish farming was the best dose that produced a specific growth rate of 15.39% day-1, a maximum density of 28.13 x 106 cells mL-1, ammonia reduction of 79.11% and BOD5 reduction of 87.39%.
