Abstract

Ultisol is very suitable for agricultural development. However, its use faces several challenges due to low soil pH. Increasing the amount of additional materials present in the soil, such as Compost-Biochar organic fertilizer and Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria, also known as PGPR, is one way to overcome the Ultisol problem. Around 156 isolates of bacteria were found, such as Azospirillum, Azotobacter, Pseudomonas fluorescens which can dissolve phosphate, as well as other endophytic bacteria. Apart from using PGPR, Ultisol improvement can be done by using a combination of Compost-Biochar. The combination of compost-biochar fertilizer from rice husks increases Ultisol productivity which can be achieved by increasing the availability of nutrients and soil chemistry. The aim is to analyze and understand the effect of the application of Sugarcane PGPR and Rice Husk Compost-Biochar on growth and production in Ultisol. This research was conducted from September to December 2023, at Rumah Plastik, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research used a Randomized Complete Factorial Design (RALF) consisting of 2 factors. Each combination was repeated 3 times so that there were 27 experimental units. The application of Sugarcane PGPR 52.4 × 106 CFU g-1 significantly affected soil N-Total. However, the 26.2 × 106 CFU g-1 treatment had a significant effect on soil pH and increased plant height, number of leaves, crop wet weight and root wet weight compared to the control treatment. The application of Compost-Biochar rice husk 24 g polybag-1 had a significant effect on soil pH, soil N-Total, plant height, number of leaves, and canopy wet weight of plants and tended to increase canopy wet weight compared to the control treatment. The combination of sugarcane PGPR and rice husk compost-biochar tended to increase soil pH, soil N-total, and P-availability.
