Abstract

Background: Measles and rubella (German measles) are preventable diseases with potentially fatal complications. The global and national (Indonesia) situation shows a decline in measles-rubella vaccination coverage. This situation has the potential to cause an outbreak of measles-rubella disease. Objective: This study aims to analyse the factors influencing measles-rubella vaccination status in Palembang City in 2022. Method: This research method is a mixed methods, cross-sectional and qualitative design with a phenomenological approach. The sample for quantitative data were mothers with young children aged 2-13 years, a total of 337 people. Sequential sampling was used to select the sample. The informants for qualitative data were mothers with children aged 2-13 years, immunisation programme managers at community health centres and health policy makers. A total of 11 informants were selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Results: The results of bivariate analysis show that there is an association between education (p value 0.012), support from health workers (p value 0.000), exposure to pro-vaccine information (p value 0.000), attitudes (p value 0.000) on children's measles-rubella vaccination status. The results of multivariate analysis showed that attitude variables were the dominant factor influencing children's measles-rubella vaccination status (PR = 5.066; 95% CI = 2.262-11.347). Meanwhile, the results of qualitative analysis show that there are 3 themes as determinants of measles-rubella vaccination status, namely contextual factors (work, media and religious factors), individual or group/community factors (knowledge, perception, painful experiences, family support) and specific issue factors of vaccine/vaccination (support/behaviour of health workers). Conclusion: Attitude is the dominant factor influencing childhood measles-rubella vaccination status. There is a need for increased public awareness and education about diseases and vaccination.
