Abstract

Personal hygiene is cleanliness and personal health that aims to prevent disease, including hair hygiene, skin hygiene, dental and oral hygiene, eye hygiene, hand and foot nail hygiene, and ear hygiene. Poor personal hygiene in children can cause several health problems. This study aims to see the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, the role of parents and teachers on students' personal hygiene. This research is descriptive analytic with a cross sectional approach, with sampling techniques determined by purposive sampling 108 respondents. Research instruments in the form of questionnaires and direct observation. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test. The results show that there is a relationship between knowledge (p-value = 0.0001), attitude (p-value = 0.0001), the role of parents (p-value = 0.0001) with students' personal hygiene and there is no relationship between the role of teachers (p-value = 0.204) with students' personal hygiene. It is concluded that the knowledge, attitude and role of parents towards student personal hygiene are low. So it is necessary to increase the participation of parents and teachers in providing students with understanding and knowledge of personal hygiene.
