Abstract
The Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, introduced the Merdeka Curriculum in response to the negative impacts that pandemics have had on the world of education. English is an optional subject according to the readiness of the educational unit. This study aimed to describe the implementation of Merdeka curriculum in teaching English, and to find out teachers and students’ perspective on learning English within the Merdeka curriculum. Qualitative method with case study design was applied in this study. Observation and interview were conducted to collect the data. The participants of this study were two teachers and two students from SD Negeri 151 Palembang. The result of this study showed that the Merdeka curriculum system was not implemented well in SD Negeri 151 Palembang for teaching and learning English. The Merdeka curriculum is not understood by the students, and their English language ability is still lacking. The study's findings support the claim that there is still need for improvement in each aspect of the school, including teachers and students.
